Oxidized Starch
Oxidized starch is a chemically modified starch treated to introduce carbonyl and carboxyl groups, making it more water-soluble and reactive. In the paper industry, it is primarily used as a surface sizing agent and coating binder to improve paper strength, smoothness, and printability. It enhances film formation, ink holdout, and coating adhesion while reducing dusting and picking, making it suitable for printing papers, packaging boards, and specialty coated papers. Oxidized starch is biodegradable, easy to apply, and compatible with fillers and other paper additives.
